Kushinohama Dike in Kuroshima Island is a natural treasure in the category of geological minerals designated by Nagasaki prefecture. About 8 million years ago, a crack in the Earth’s crust allowed a plume of hot magma to escape and create lava dike with more than 300m length on the surface. It is located in the westernmost area of Kuroshima island, and the biggest scale in Nagasaki pref. You can observe the trace of crustal movement of the ancient time when the tide ebbs and let the dike emerge. Amazing, isn’t it? You can also visit Kuroshima Catholic Church which was registered as a world cultural heritage site last year.

黒島の串ノ浜岩脈は、約800万年前に岩盤の裂け目に地下の溶岩が入り、冷え固まったものです。島の西端に位置し、全長は300m以上におよび、長崎県では最大の規模を誇ります。潮が引いた時には、当時の地殻変動の痕跡を目の当たりにできます。地質鉱物の天然記念物として長崎県指定の串ノ浜岩脈を一度は見に行くのもいいですね。島には、昨年、世界文化遺産に登録された黒島天主堂もあります。
