In the December issue of the monthly magazine “Naradegawa!”, we are featuring 2 American-style bars in Sasebo. Both of them have friendly atmosphere which even first timers will feel comfortable entering.

Cafe Bar Shooters（カフェバー シューターズ）
First, we visited Cafe Bar Shooters run by a friendly American owner, Steve. Since he has lived in Sasebo for more than 20 years, he attracts Japanese customers with his fluent Japanese while serving a relaxed environment for American customers. On the interview day, we saw a Japanese customer on his business trip chatting with local Americans.
まず訪れたのは、アメリカ人のオーナーが営むカフェバー シューターズ！シアトル出身の店主スティーブさんは、佐世保在住歴20年以上！とってもフレンドリーで日本語もお上手なので、日本人でもふらりと立ち寄れます。取材した日は、県外のお客さんが、その日知り合ったアメリカ人客と仲良く話していました。
The most popular meal is a cheeseburger with a drink (900 yen). The old-school simple burger reminds us of the good old days in the U.S.A. The sauce made from local chili peppers adds a spicy accent to the burger.
一番人気のメニューは「チーズバーガー」のドリンクセット（900円）。奇をてらわないシンプルさが、古き良きアメリカを彷彿とさせます。柚木産の唐辛子を使ったソースをかけると辛味のアクセントが効いて◎！
John, who works at the Sasebo navy base, often visits Shooters to eat his cheeseburger. John loves to cook using Sasebo’s local ingredients. He buys fresh produce at the local farmer’s markets.
アメリカ人のジョンさんも、チーズバーガーを食べにしょっちゅう店を訪れるとのこと。料理好きのジョンさんは、佐世保の食材がお気に入り。食材が豊富で野菜などは地元の生産者市場で購入するそうです。

BUNNY（バニー）
BUNNY is a long-established American-style bar that has been in business for more than 40 years. When you enter the bar, you will see many dollar bills on the wall. The atmosphere is just what an American-style bar in Sasebo is like. They have many kinds of games that encourage communications between customers. We tried the bar’s famous “beer pong”, a drinking game in which players throw a ping pong ball across a table with the intent of landing the ball in a cup of beer on the other end. Even though we didn’t know the game, we learned from American customers and enjoyed a lot.
お店の壁にはたくさんのドル札！創業40年以上の老舗外国人バーBUNNY (バニー)さんは、これぞ佐世保の外国人バー！といった雰囲気です。店内にはコミュニケーションを促すゲーム類が豊富！Yuki先生も、名物のビアポンテーブル(ピンポン玉をカップに投げ入れて遊ぶゲーム)に挑戦しました。アメリカ人のお客さんが優しく教えてくれて、とっても楽しかったです。
Jeffrey, who has just moved to Sasebo, loves this bar. He said, “Bunny is a fun place because we can make friends with Japanese customers through the game even though we don’t understand each other’s language well.”
佐世保に来て間もないジェフリーさんは、すっかりバニーがお気に入り。日本人のお客さんともゲームを通じて仲良くなれるから楽しい！とのことでした。
When someone rings a bell, it’s a sign that the person is going to owe one drink to everyone in the shop. We encountered the lucky moment and were treated to a ginger ale.
店の鐘が鳴るのは誰がか全員に一杯ご馳走してくれるというサイン。その瞬間に居合わせてラッキーだったYuki先生でした。
