In our new article for the collaboration with the local free paper Naradewa, we will be featuring Japanese anime. As we interviewed non-Japanese residents in Sasebo, we met many people who love Japanese anime. So, in the February issue, we invited Jason from Australia and dug deep into the reason why Japanese anime attracts people worldwide.
ならでわ×Eチャンのコラボ記事を作成していく中で、多くの外国人がアニメを好んでいることが分かりました!そこで2月号では、その魅力について調査をしてきました!

Japanese Anime is not just for Children

【Jason from Australia】
While cartoons from other countries are often made for children, the themes and storytelling of Japanese anime are diverse and attractive such as the emotionally engaging ‘Naruto,’ and ‘Attack on Titan‘ depicting human tragedy. Not only the main character, but each character has a well-developed story, and the depth of that is very interesting. Even adults can find characters who can connect with.
Japanese anime series are shown on TV!

【My best 3 Japanese anime】
1st. ONE PIECE
2nd. Attack on Titan
3rd. Gin Tama
In Australia, Japanese anime series are shown on TV on weekday mornings. I would watch them before school and talk about them with my classmates. Sometimes, character names and theme songs are different from the original, but the attractiveness is still the same.
Popular items among non-Japanese people.
We visited Y.Y.BOUEKI, a movie and anime character toy store in Sasebo, and asked about popular items among non-Japanese people.
1st. Records
Recently, Japanese old records have been selling well among non-Japanese people. Many people simply judge them by their cover. Also, 80’s Japanese city pop is popular.

2nd. Capsule Toys
A newly opened capsule toys shop, ‘Gachasaurus,’ displays around 250 capsule toy vending machines. It’s already popular among non-Japanese people.

Jason picked a vending machine of Nameneko, kittens dressed up in bousouzoku (motorcycle gang) that were viral in the 1980s in Japan.
