“Iwaya-gu” is actually sea cave which is 10m wide and 10m deep located in Takanashi-cho, Sasebo city. It is also designated as one of Hirado-Hakkei (8 scenic spots) and called “Susa jinjya (shrine)” instead of original “Iwaya-gu”. During the Warring States period, it was an object of worship and the record said that Matsuura Chinshin (26th head of Hirado Matsuura Family) visited there to pray for the victory when he joined the invasion of Korea. Inside the cave was sacred area, but after the World War Ⅱ, many refugees started living there. In 1955, worship hall was built and the cave was covered to prevent invasion and to protect visitors, as well. Since the cave is very deep, legend has it that the cave reaches Imari city, Saga pref.
岩屋宮は、佐世保市高梨町にある幅10m、奥行き10mの海食洞です。平戸八景の一つでもあり、現在では「須佐神社」と呼び、古名である岩屋宮と呼ぶことはほとんどありません。戦国時代には、信仰の対象となっており、朝鮮の役出陣折には、松浦鎮信が必勝祈願の参拝をした記録があります。洞内は神域とされていましたが、太平洋戦争後に空襲で家を失った人々が住み着いたため、侵入者を防ぐためと参拝者の利便を兼ねて、昭和30年（1955年）頃に洞窟をふさぐように拝殿が建立されました。洞門は奥行きが深く、伊万里まで続いているとの伝説もあります。
