Have you ever seen “potholes” in Saza river? They can be seen on the riverbed of Saza river. They are cylindrical shape holes which were grinded repeatedly by small stones in cracks or depression of riverbed rocks. Most of them are concentrated around the upper stream area of school gate bridge of Yoshii junior high school. Some of them are pretty big and even longer than 3m. There are more than 640 potholes in total. What a rare forming in nature!

佐々川の河床にたくさん見られる「ポットホール」と呼ばれる穴を知っていますか？川底の岩の割れ目や窪みに石がはまり、研磨することを繰り返すことによって、岩盤に円筒状の穴が開いたものです。「甌穴（おうけつ）」「かめ穴」とも呼ばれています。吉井中学校前の校門橋の上流側に集中しており、大きいものでは3ｍを超えるものもあります。全体では640以上あるそうです。まさに自然の造形ですね。
