July 7 is Tanabata in Japan. Also known as the Star Festival, it is based on a Chinese mythology of the Weaver (Vega) and the Herdsman (Altair) couple over the Milky Way.
七月七日は七夕！英語では「スターフェスティバル」とも訳されるこのお祭り。天の川の織姫（ベガ）と彦星（アルタイル）のお話は、中国の神話が由来となってます。
What happened to Weaver and Herdsman?
織姫と彦星になにがあったの？
The two became too much in love with each other and started to neglect their duties. So as punishment, they were separated on either ends of the Milky Way and were allowed to meet only once a year!
二人がラブラブすぎて仕事をしなくなってしまったので、罰として天の川の両端に引き裂かれて、年に一度しか会えなくなってしまったのよ！
Oh that’s sad… Then what do people do on Tanabata day?
え！悲しい…。じゃ、七夕の日にはみんな何をするの？
In Japan, we celebrate Tanabata by writing wishes on a paper strip (tanzaku) and then hanging it from bamboo branches.
日本では願い事を短冊に書いて、竹に吊るすのよ！
That sounds like fun! It’s like Christmas in summer!
それ面白そう！なんだかクリスマスの夏バージョンみたい！
